Heerlijk geslapen met het ruisen van de zee op de achtergrond. Het overstemde ons gesnurk, dus niemand heeft ons gehoord. Er waren trouwens ook maar ongeveer 15 plekjes bezet dus de minimale afstand tot de buren was 50 meter.
Vandaag op weg naar Santiago de Compostela. We zijn er rechtstreeks naar toe gereden, vandaag zonder omwegen en zonder stadjes te bezoeken want anders komen we in tijdnood.
We zijn de grens van Asturië naar Galicië overgegaan.
Santiago is net een groot museum van grote gebouwen en er zijn hier veel wandelaars die de laatste kilometers van de Camino volbrengen. De pelgrims zijn altijd duidelijk herkenbaar aan de verkregen sint-jakobsschelp, die het symbool is voor de heilige Jakobus en de voltooide pelgrimstocht.
Bijzonder is de kathedraal en de botafumeiro, het grootste wierookvat ter wereld. We hebben nog even verplicht ergens binnen iets gedronken ivm een plaatselijke regenbui.
Na deze heiligenstad te hebben bekeken, zijn we zuidwaarts gereden richting Combarro. Het kleine historisch centrum van Combarro is één van de best bewaarde van Galicië. De oude vissershuizen, de hórreos en de kruispalen geven het geheel een Middeleeuws tintje. Hórreos zijn Galicische voorraadschuren die van origine werden gebruikt voor het drogen en bewaren van mais. In Combarro worden ze ook gebruikt voor het drogen van bijvoorbeeld sardines. Er zijn er ongeveer nog 30 te vinden.
Ook zie je nog ‘los cruceiros’, dat zijn kruisbeelden. In Combarro vind je 6 van deze beelden en ondanks dat ze veel op elkaar lijken, zijn er geen twee gelijk. Je ziet ze veelal op kruispunten, kerken en begraafplaatsen, geliefde plekken van de zielen. Santa Compaña is een soort Halloween van Galicië, een groep in vodden gehulde, spookachtige figuren op blote voeten en een kaars in hun hand dwalen rond in nevelachtige sferen. Als je ze tegenkomt, heb je nog maar een jaar te leven. Of iets langer. Of korter. Ligt er aan waar je woont en wie het verhaal vertelt. Gelukkig hebben we ze niet in levende lijve gezien. Wel wordt je doodgegooid (figuurlijk ?) met poppen van de Santa. Er is echter een effectieve manier om aan de fatale afloop van een ontmoeting met de Santa Compaña te ontsnappen. Om de kruisbeelden is altijd een stoep gebouwd. Als je de Santa Compaña tegenkomt, klim dan als een gek op de stoep van het kruisbeeld. Succes verzekerd zeggen ze. Het was erg leuk om hier even rond te lopen. In de zomer kun je hier waarschijnlijk over de koppen lopen.
Na dit bezoek zijn we weer op zoek gegaan naar een camping. We zijn terecht gekomen op Camping Monte Cabo, direct gelegen aan de zee. We hebben een prachtig uitzicht.
Omdat het al rond 19 uur was hebben we tapas gegeten op de camping. Normale porties vandaag want het zijn Nederlandse eigenaren?. Morgen willen we gaan fietsen naar een schiereiland hier vlakbij. Weer maar duimen voor mooi weer ??. Vandaag was het erg wisselvallig. Blauwe luchten werden afgewisseld met regenbuitjes. Gelukkig zaten we tijdens de meeste buitjes net in de auto.
